Recess’ Top Ten Musical

Highlights of 2011

 ————————————————————————–

10. Disco, nu disco, old disco, italo disco, acid house, discoy disco disco (whatever that is)…can’t get enough.

9. Yoko Duo. Check ‘em out. Smash TV’s Holger w/ a talented new vocalist. Stepping up big on the Burial game. Love you Berlin.

8. Julio Bashmore and French Fries continuing to revisit and reinvent house in ways that inspire bedroom producers all over the world. Every DJ in town knows that they produce an instant reaction on the dancefloor. Can’t. Go. Wrong.

7. Dubstep’s big bang-out year creating new sub genres and hybrid genres to keep techno, house, uk funky and whatever else sounding fresh. Although Skrillex will define the sound for the name and we’ll all laugh about it later…actually we’ll laugh about it now.

6. Seattle’s hip hop scene. The genre walls are coming crashing down!

5. Shameless’ 8th annual Valentine party at Fred Wildlife Refuge. So much love!

4. Jazz Alley. Still swinging after all these years.

3. Shambhala. Canadians are beautiful people. I want to be one. Photosynthesis. Magic.

2. Cajmere’s epic 4am afterhours set at Rebar Sunday morning of db.

1. The continued high level of collaboration amongst Seattle’s party makers. I don’t think anywhere else in this country is quite like it. Big love.
