Oliver is why we love Music

U-tern is something of an icon in Vancouver B.C. We became aware of him several years ago, as he would drop remix after remix into the blogosphere, with us always wondering how he could so consistently drop quality bombs. Seriously, one after another. Jams. His edits, mashes, remixes and productions became dance-floor gold for anyone that was into anything from Disco to House to Funk.

Fast forward to two years ago. U-tern joins forces with fellow beat prodigy, Oliver Goldstein (aka Oligee). Together they formed OLIVER and have gone off the deep end of the pier, reaching number one on Beatport with their smash single, “Dirty Talk” and dropping gem after gem for the nu disco, house and electro set.

We’re ecstatic to host them at our first Trashed event to be held at Chop Suey.

Here’s a look at last month’s Don’t Talk To The Cops show at Trashed! We had over 400 people show up to an absolute blitzkrieg of a show, featuring opening sets from Purple & Green and DJ Hanibal. DTTTC! have since played at SXSW and are on the massive Sasquatch Festival line-up alongside the likes of Jack White, Nero, Bon Iver, Pretty Lights, and The Roots.

We’re also honored to announce the winner of last month’s Don’t Talk To The Cops! remix contest! The Rubicon7 remix of “Swag Treated Treated Swag” is just sick. The duo took a break from their regularly more progressive electronic roots to kill this project. The bassline works magic with the vocals and DTTTC! are stoked to have it included on the upcoming remix album. CONGRATS!!!

I don’t normally show my original images or where I start on a design but I had so much fun with this one I thought I’d share. A lot of people wonder what goes in to making different designs. This is a good example of all the layers and textures it takes to make something like this.

This is going to be the artwork for my next remix of Track A Tiger‘s “Don’t let the Nightlight Dance”. I wanted to make the model a Tiger for obvious reasons and it’s a break up song so you have the tears. I should have the remix done in a week or two.

Fresh Espresso – Hush (New Single)

I was just thinking the other day… I wonder what the hell the Fresh Espresso guys have been doing lately. Then today I look at my inbox and BLAM! a new single. Well I have to say, I’m even more impressed then their last album. If this is any indication on the rest of “Bossalona”, their second full length album, I foresee even more chart toppers to come.

Normally I’m not one to get mad hyped on hip-hip but when I hear guys like this who are pushing and blurring boundaries, I can’t do anything other then give them their props and respect. Solid tune from start to finish. They came out of the gates swinging! Love the beat and the message. As artists a lot of us second guess what we’re doing from time to time. This is a true anthem to remind us what the fuck we’re here for.

Hush is a sonic victory lap. It’s an anthem for the big dreamers and the tenacious underdogs of the world. With a beat to knock your teeth out and battle cry lyrics “Hush” has Fresh Espresso soaring to new heights. “It’s not a wish if it’s happening.”

Yuksek (Pierre-Alexandre Busson) is a french electronic music producer, remixer and DJ, native of Reims, France. He’s easily been in the top 3 artists that we’ve wanted to book since we started Trashed a couple years ago (waiting, waiting, waiting). His remixes and original productions are dancefloor gold. His live show historically has been him, keyboards, effects boxes and tens of thousands of fans….

But, boredom and solitude are two things most musicians don’t wear well. Once detachment starts to kick in, terrible things tend to happen – hard drugs, loose women, broken television sets, you know the picture.

When Yuksek found himself both more or less bored with the self-serving demands of the dancefloor and all too often alone on tour, solely accompanied by his collection of synths and FX boards, he wisely decided to avoid the aforementioned trappings and pour his heart and soul into song.

The aftermath: ‘Living On The Edge Of Time’, an album inspired by the numbness of life on the road, the feeling of being alone in a crowd and constant need for creative exploration – but also a collection of unabashed, jubilant pop tunes; introspect and uplifting at the same time.

We’re doing it again. Keep your pants on. Nah, don’t. We couldn’t be more excited about this.
